My laptop did something completely weird last night. ok I woke up this morning to expect my computer to be in sleep mode where I left it but no it was off. It did this the other day too. but it was on battery so I though maybe it was just dead but this time it was plugged in. when it started up it went to a bios screen saying it shut down from overheating. this makes no sense for one it wasnt on and two its cool in the room. Im begining to wonder about the motherboard since it has been having other problems like with the wired port and the way it receives power when the computer is off. But Id like to know if that could be it of is it something else. Ive left the computer in sleep mode many times for hours so Im not sure.

It could be the motherboard. Not a huge chance that it is this... but try scanning for a virus.

I ran a scan with malwarebites and nothing was found. I cant comment for some reason so I just did this. I tried internet explorer and I'm using chrome. Is anyone else having this issue?

Yes, it's a known issue.  Someone said that they were able to comment when using Firefox, but I haven't tried it.

disable any auto updating programs like Windows Update, or reschedule antivirus/spyware scanners updates or scans to other times.

this is a wake up event that happens in the laptop, when something is scheduled the laptop will wake up from sleep mode. it then does what was scheduled and stays on. if you had the laptop on something where the vents were blocked, and a scan was scheduled, the CPU could have easily overheated.

I have disabled all but the antivirus Ive always been told to leave auto updates for your antivirus on. I do check for updates on everything else once a week. Also I use sleep mode all of the time so Im sure if it were that it would have done it before.
