Should Google sell gift cards for Google Play?

I have been contemplating why Google doesn't distribute gift cards like Apple. I have plenty of friends who are Android users and would love to be able to give them a gift card on occasion. I can do this easily with friends who own an iDevice because you can purchase a gift card or e-card directly from iTunes. So I am left to ponder why they don't do what the higest-grossing company is doing.

Its a good idea but semi useless since google allows you to use regular amex and visa gift cards for purchases.

I thought Google handled gift cards the same way Apple did. It did not occur to me that alternatives were available.

Not semi-useles.  To buy an amex or Visa Gift card, you have to pay a fee on top of the balance that you are loading on it.  So in effect you have to pay $30 to give a $25 gift card.  I can give a $25 Itunes gift card for $25.

@Ardub, not really. At some places you have to pay taxes on iTunes gift cards, like here in the city, the tax applies everywhere.

just because Itunes card for $25 will get you $25 in purchases from there sight lets not assume there is not a fee , that fee is just invisable :) remember Itunes sets the prices where they are   and they are not selling at break even price  the good bet says in the end they make more then $5 on your $25 gift card..

also google is the same way  think the $5 fee you pay for the visa gift card is a kick in the but  how about the Invisbale fee google gets  there is no doubt in my mind when these guys sell music tracks they are making  a 4X or 5X mark up on each they no doubt get a kick back from the gift card companies for accept:)
ing them because a good many  place will not any longer, to use a vcisa gift card at a store or gas station it must be new and they hold the full value of the card untill what you charged clears the card  that can take up to 60days depending ..

so many people have tried to play the rip off game with these prepaid Credit cards no one wants to deal with them any longer ..
keep in mind on average they are selling music tracks at a $1 each and  most likely pay no more the .04 cents to do it . this is where the new cloud set up where you pay to just stream the tracks to your self  no down loaded copy  you cant share it endlessly with everyone ..
