old gnome 1 and 2 based linux distros

i happen to be looking for a linux distro that still uses gnome 1 or 2 like a version before gtk came around. i happen to have an old dell optiplex gx200 with a 1ghz p3 and 384MB of ram. which distros should i look for to use.

I find it best to build your own off the base Linux.

You could google for low resource distros like dsl...or have a look at the pre-made appliances over at suse studio...I don't know...maybe you could just build your own OS there?

Not sure that you would even be able to find GNOME 1 anymore, I did look though.  As for GNOME 2, the closest you are going to find that is supported right now, and it is very alpha in development, is MATE.  Unfortunately I think the days of GNOME are going away very swiftly, at least on a desktop.  My recommendation for a WM is Window Maker, it very closely resembles the NeXT OS desktop.  I have been using it for years and love it, though as always, YMMV.
