I'm wondering on which new MacBook I should get. With the new MacBooks just have been released in the Apple Event today, I don't know which one I should get. Which one would you recommend?

I will be using the programs: Google Chrome, Anime Studio, iWork, and other basic applications

They are the same as the last ones.

Low CPU power.
Low GPU power.

Might as well just get a cheap old one and whack 8GB RAM in and a SSD.

They're not quite the same as the last ones. They Airs and Pros have updated processors and graphics. And the Retina MacBook Pros are miles ahead of the last ones. But that's a whole different price range.

I agree with the new displays. But otherwise the performance is the same. They underclock the CPUs because there is little cooling.

Basic Application? Well, you certainly don't need to buy any of the new builds. The only difference is it has retina display and a smaller profile, which adds about $400. If you are an artist that edits video or uses Photoshop, then I recommend you get that one. If you are just an average Joe, then get the previous models.

well i'm guessing since you've mentioned the Air you're ok with a small screen in that case the 13inch Pro would do a much better job, one thing to think of is how often you need to refresh your system. I waited four years so i can justify going for the new Retina Macbook Pro as it will be another few years before i update again, do you try to update every year? What Mac do you currently run?

The prices on used models will now come down since the update, you have the option of picking up a used Pro for somewhere around the price of a new Air at lest for a 13inch one. That would be a good option since what you describe using it for would fit in well with an Air but since you could get a used previous gen 13inch Pro for around the same price you'll have plenty of wiggle room in case your needs ever changed. Have a browse on eBay and see what you can find in budget and let us know what you've found so we can help you further if need be :)
