I'd need approx 10% more efficiency to my 2.6GHz AMD Athlon 5000+ Dualcore. And that's pretty much nothing. I'm trying to get the most out of Call of Duty: Black Ops, but my CPU is just under the requirements. The game does run well generally, but stutters on the most critical situations. So, do you know any neat tricks or tips on how to squeeze that extra juice out from the processor? A new CPU? Sure! I just can't find an reliable retailer that sells AM2 socket processors that most likely works with my motherboard. I know overclocking is a answer, but if there is no software found for it (which I couldn't find a single trace on Google), it's a no. I've tried GameBooster, but it doesn't make a noticeable difference. |

I doubt it will be your CPU damaging performance. What GPU do you have? You don't use software for overclocking, you use your bios, although it is almost impossible to overclock and OEM computer |

It's the CPU. Then again, a SSD might solve something. I noticed just now that something is being written or read from my Hard Drive. And a lot of it too. I've seen the meter go from 10 to 50 MB/s which is unusual imo. Could this be the case? Anyways, my graphics card is a Nvidia 9800. And by looking at it's temperatures, it doesn't break a sweat. I have the game on maximum graphics possible. The game requires 8600 or higher. |

You don't have to find a "reliable retailer that sells AM2 socket processors" because most AM2/AM2+ motherboards support AM3 processors with a BIOS update. Perhaps you should give the rest of your computer's specifications. Also, use the commenting feature instead of posting an answer for your response. ;) |

If you're feeling extreme, overclocking would be PERFECT for you. I got my old 5200+ from 2.7Ghz to 3.4Ghz stable. You could get at least over 3Ghz with the stock cooler. And don't worry about compatibility. Odds are, with a quick BIOS flash, you can run the latest stuff. AM3 sockets are only compatible with AM3 processors, BUT AM2/AM2+ boards are often fully compatible with even the latest stuff. For example, my GA-MA785GM-US2H AM2+ motherboard from Gigabyte fully supports the latest hexacore lineup (I would know... I'm running a 1055T!) |
