When people tell others to, "SHUT UP!" ... Why do you/they have the urge to keep yammering more & louder?

It's psychological.

Basically when someone is told to shut up, they don't want to feel like they are lowering their "shield" to that persons assertiveness. They feel like if they just shut up, they have been overpowered which can make some people feel small. This is really just an ego thing and so the person being told to shut up keeps going for an extra few words, just to kinda say "yeah i'm gonna shut up, but because I want to, not because you told me."
