Question 1 I recently bought a second-hand home built desktop (the specs are a little higher than my one one) It works fine except when I try to play an audio or video file I get an error telling me I have no audio device installed but the computer has an onboard audio device I'e been thinking it might be a driver issue but I'm having trouble finding a driver for it and I cant get Vender or Device numbers because according to device manager I don't have a device to install drivers for. My motherboard is a WinFast 760GXK8MC Question 2 I have an old laptop that I want to use to play music with a pair of speakers from an old Hi-Fi (See Question 3) I want to know what OS would be best for what I need it to do and its low specs 512MB RAM It's currently running Windows XP but is doing so very slowly, a RAM upgrade is out of the question because of the price of this old RAM. Question 3 I normally use the Hi-Fi for connecting either one of my laptops or my ipod using the an AUX lead, but that's pretty much the only thing on the Hi-Fi that still works, I want to remove the Hi-Fi and just use the speakers. I need to know if there's a converter I can buy or if I can make one that makes the speakers work with a 3.5mm audio jack. I'm not sure what the name of the speaker connection is but each speaker has two wires both striped which go into 4 holes in the back of the Hi-Fi and held in with clamps. |

1) Download the audio drivers from here: On-Board Audio Drivers 2) I'd recommend you format the drive and do a clean install of Windows XP. Could be that your current installation of XP is being slowed down by malware and junk files etc. I have an old laptop with similar specs running XP Pro SP3 and it runs nicely. Doing a fresh install of XP definitely helped me solve the slowing down issue. If you don't want to do this OR a fresh re-installation does not solve the issue then I recommend you install Linux Ubuntu. It runs on very little system resources and best of all its free. It comes bundled with plenty of software for all your needs. I have also installed Ubuntu on the same laptop and it ran very smoothly for such a low-spec laptop. 3) I don't understand why you would want to get rid of the HiFi and only use the speakers. You'll need to be an amplifier to connect the speakers to. I doubt they're that expensive these days. 1) I got an error when I tried to install the dirver "Driver not found! reboot your system and run setup again" I rebooted but no success. 2)I just put ubuntu on it and its running great. 3)The Hi-Fis CD player, Radio and Tape deck don't work but id have to get an amp I may as well just use the Hi-Fi. Try re-downloading the driver, could be a corrupt driver. Glad to see Ubuntu is running nicely for you. I'd recommend you keep the HiFi rather than having hassle buying an amp and connecting everything together. |
