I believe that it is just because of the fact that the CEO of Verizon (Ivan Seidenberg) is going to be one of the keynote speakers at CES and because Verizon is suppose to debut their LTE (4g) network at the event and on top of that a couple of weeks before Verizon's CEO was announced as one of the keynote speakers of CES Bloomberg released an article saying that the Verizon iPhone is set to debut in January (around the time of CES).
Upadate: Why Gizmodo Believes that the iPhone will be announced during Verizon's January 11th keynote. (And as a side-note Apple is dropping all restocking fees on the 11th. Is it because of the influx of AT&T iPhone returns?)

I don't if it is, but I really think it should. Here, in Canada, we have it on three major providers. There really isn't competition between these companies, so they all basically have the same plans/pricing, but at least if we want an iPhone, we have a choice.

I believe that within the next year, we will see a Verizon iPhone, because Apple's contract with AT&T is almost up. I believe that the iPhone will be available for Verizon and AT&T (possibly another, but not as probable).

It's been rumored for a while; I'll believe it when I see it.
However this is interesting. My family owns iPhones and the AT&T family plan is under my dad. A few weeks ago he got an email from AT&T saying something like they appreciate his business and what not, and telling him that AT&T is spending millions of dollars on area coverage this coming year. Seems like they get that the only reason we're with them is because of the iPhone and maybe they know that reason will be gone soon. Just a thought.
