I received my Cr-48 in the mail today, 2 days after applying for the Pilot Program. I applied as a developer btw. So far, I'm not too impressed by it as it is slower than an average netbook for even light browsing, but I'm sure Google will continue to make the experience better. Did you get one today? If so, what are your thoughts on it?

Might have been a lag in the servers.

Maybe be a site error. Its okay though.

How did they contact you to notify you that you would recieve a Cr-48? also what are the chances that i will get one?

It's strange, because I never recieved a confirmation email. Your really depend on when you applied. I applied less than an hour after the Pilot program was announced. I expect people who applied after maybe wednesday afternoon are probably out of luck. I could be wrong, tho.

well... i just used this tool that supposedly checks the ups data base. and it claimed that one will be coming to my township. so i expect that its coming to me. :) and im really excited. also i havent recieved a confirmation email either.

I applied for one as an individual, except I never received a conformation or rejection email. So either I received one or they don't tell you if you have been rejected.

I didn't get one yet but I applied as a developer the day the application process opened so I'm crossing my fingers that I get one.

First of all what are your thoughts on the OS and whole UI of it? Do you think this would work well with the average person?

The UI is exactly like Chrome on your computer, except full screen and the max/min/close buttons are replaced by battery, time, and network symbols. As of now, the average person (me, probably) would rather use a netbook with Windows and Google Chrome. The overall user experience is very sluggish and unappealing. Then again, all that could change soon (maybe even overnight through auto updates) and this would be the great cloud OS it's supposed to be. And by mid 2011 it should be perfect enough for manufacturers to start mass producing netbooks with Chrome OS.

I think it will work well for the average person. I use my dad as a basis and he's always talking about how cool things will be when everything is moved to the cloud. Even though he still doesn't know that the cloud and the internet are the same thing.

Doesn't sound good from what fruitpunch is witnessing. I applied as heavy mobile user, I guess time will tell.

It really isn't all that bad. I just expected a lot more from it I guess. Google will fix all the problems with it over the next 6 months though,

I applied as a developer a couple hours after they sent the email on day 1. I hope to get it but now after some comments i am not as enthralled.

I thought it said you need to live in the United States to apply?

(Dec 11 '10 at 17:54) Feras Feras's gravatar image

I think where he lives counts as a territory of the US not positive though.

You can't buy it. You have to apply for the Pilot program, but it's probably too late already

(Dec 11 '10 at 16:20) fruitpunch36 fruitpunch36's gravatar image

it isnt... they are still going to be giving them out till december 29

(Dec 11 '10 at 16:33) Ztag100 Ztag100's gravatar image

but only 60,000 were made

(Dec 11 '10 at 20:22) fruitpunch36 fruitpunch36's gravatar image

yeah but the way they are shipping them is in segments, for example they shipped out about 7000 of them yesterday. so that way they are not all gone at once. so you still have a chance if you didn't apply yet.

I've had access to Chrome OS for the last year or so. It's quite an amazing product, but it has its ups and downs

If you are wondering, I downloaded it via Parallels for Mac (v5.0)

(Dec 11 '10 at 21:44) YamazaruNinja YamazaruNinja's gravatar image

Yeah, but the experience isnt quite as pure as having it on a laptop made specifically for Chrome OS. I've tried your method before.
