Why do clothes get a "closet smell" if you leave your clothes in the closet to long? I just had to rewash all my winter clothes because of it. Is there a way to prevent your clothes from getting the "closet smell"?

Define "closet smell": u mean smell like dust and old clothes?
if that's what you mean you should use ur clothes more often, I mean theres some clothes people use on a more daily basis, but I mean you must change from time to time xD, if you have a lot of clothes try to give some u don' t use to family or poor people that cleans a lil and tends to accumulate less dust :P

As long as we're not talking mothballs... man, no offence to anyone here - but i would rather deal with the potential of a couple of moths/holes-in-clothes then smelling like those disgusting things.
Besides if moths are that big of a problem, I would imagine using mothballs is the lazy fix - call a bug expert!
/end of slightly off topic rant about mothballs.
