Did you buy alpha, or are you playing classic?

Depends on your ISP, and if they allow servers to be ran off of a home network, also it depends on if you have unmetered bandwidth or not.

It depends on your ISP. Some will charge you for the extra bandwidth and uploads and downloads. Most, however, will not. Comcast will, however, cut your cable if you exceed more than 250GB of download a month.

What about Virgin Media?

Just give your ISP a ring, and ask them, it doesn't hurt to ask. They cant cancel your service for asking, if they say no, then don't do it.

It is best to get a server from a hosting company like LoLHosting.info or GameServers.com as your ISPs do get a bit fussy and you have to have a very good upload rate.

It will probably be cheaper for you to buy a VPS (virtual private server) and run the server off that.

That way your VPS host will sort out everything else for you and give you a STATIC IP which is important for servers. Most home broadband connections use dynamic IP's that change when the router is reconnected.
