I am a little confused about how to do this. Here is a example that I made up. (Which could mean that it does not work but it will show the type of question.)

3/7x = 8

If we are finding x, We move (3/7) over the equal.

This is a way by fraction busting.

(7/3)(3/7)x = 8 (7/3)

x=18.66667

I am not too sure of your math level, but you can also just divide each side by (3/7) and figure out x

That's how I would have done it.

Instead of doing it like Kevin I would find it easier to do:

original

Then multiply the 7 over to get:

2nd step or 3rd step

Then just divide by 3 to get:

final step

You shouldn't have to worry about calculating that to 18.6667, 56/3 is just as acceptable and is the exact answer.

basically you find the inverse of the faction (aka flip it). Then you multiple both sides by the inverse fraction.

You mean reciprocal, not inverse.

3/7x = 8 you should multiply both sides by 7x to get 3=56x and now divide both sides by 56 to get x=3/56

this will be your answer. for more free math help logon to tutorvista.com
