Last night I walked into my house, and dropped my phone (Droid Eris) onto the tile floor causing the screen to crack. The touchscreen still appears to be working, but I'm sure some glass will fall out eventually. I have the Total Equipment coverage plan so I started to make my claim online, but then I discovered that I have to pay $89 for another Droid Eris. I don't have a problem with the fact that I have to pay, just that I don't want to pay $89 for another sucky phone. (I have not had a great experience with my Droid Eris, before the screen broke.) Do you think I could possibly get an upgrade if I took it to a Verizon Wireless store? And if so how much do you think I will have to pay for a new phone? I was looking into getting a Droid Incredible

I thought the "broke" was going to mean "jailbroke".

Your choices are:

  1. Buy the $89 replacement
  2. Buy another new phone at full price
  3. Buy another new phone with a discount, but sign a 2 year contract
  4. Buy a used phone for practically nothing
  5. Stick with what you've got

We can't tell you what you "should" do, it depends on your situation. I recently had the touchscreen on my HTC Touch break, so I went out and bought an Evo 4G.

The only problem is I'm currently 1 year through a 2 year contract. Can I sign another & cancel my current one (without massive fees)?

I think you can renew your contract and get a new phone. But then your stuck for another 2 years.

Do number 2 and send back the broken one.

A full price Droid is $500+ :(

But it "broke" in the mail..

And you decided to not have a phone "wink wink"

I think I understand what you mean but I can't send back my Droid Eris for a Droid Incredible.

Get the same one you broke... Swap it.

Big companies won't lose out on it.

As I said in the question I don't really want to get the same phone because the majority of the time it would be extremely laggy or wouldn't work.

Then sell the working one....

Would you buy a phone with a cracked touchscreen?

showing 5 of 10 show all

You could buy another skin for the phone. JUst buy a new skin! I'm pretty sure you can replace the skin.

I don't think a new skin will magically repair the screen.

dropped my phone (Droid Eris) onto the tile floor causing the screen to crack. The touchscreen still appears to be working He did not make it clear wether he broke the screen OVERLAY or the ACTUAL LCD underneath the overlay.

Well when I said I'm not sure if the glass will fall out I'm pretty sure that means that screen broke & the fact that I can see it & feel it.

Get an iPhone, D'oh! (Just joking.) I thought that you could get a new one for that $89 and sell it, but as the full price is like $99, it's useless. But how about repairing it and then selling it, rather than getting a replacement - both of them come with risks as no-one may buy it or you'd have to lower the price really well. If neither of those work out I'd recommend you to buy a new phone.
