I have never bought a song from iTunes before I just wanted to know, say I download a song, what if my HD gets fried. Do they let my re-download the music or what? If iTunes does not allow this, where do you think I should buy digital music from?

Actually. You can re download anything you have already purchased for free.

You have to click buy, but it will come with a pop-up saying, 'you have already purchaced this item, would you like to re-download it for free?'

Does this work with songs? I know it works with Apps.

Also, if you owned 10's/100's of albums, finding and downloading all of them and keeping track of all you have would be a bitch!

This is what you do. Open iTunes/Select all of your songs/hit Command (or Control) P to print it/Select Song listing/click on Print/PDF/Save as PDF. It's not that hard to do, and I don't think that you even need to select it all, but that's what I've done. Now, I have all of my song names organized, and in a small file on my computer.

You cannot redownload for free. You must buy it again. Thats why I backup! Or just buy the CD for an extra few £.

You can re-download anything you have bought again. Just once you sign into the same AppleID. The same goes for Apps from the App store, so if your computer goes bust then you'll always be able to get them again. You don't need to backup your system, Apple does it for you through iTunes.

I've actually have run into this problem multiple times and have never been able to redownload the song for free. It always tells me "You already own this song, blah blah. Go to store > check for available downloads." I'll do what it tells me and it says all purchased things for this account have been downloaded... yet the song I have purchased in the past is not accounted for... so I resort to buying it again.
