Well, unless you're going to re-activate it at some point, I don't see any immediate reason to keep it on hand. Now you could always keep it as a quick backup in case your current phone breaks so you could continue to recieve calls, texts, etc. But that's just if you can't possibly go without a phone for a day or two until you get it fixed.
