Recently I got may new LG monitor to go with my macbook pro. I think I want to have dual monitors but I want to see also how I like clamshell mode. I put my computer in this mode last night and now this morning it makes a ticking sound. I can lift the lid just a bit and it stops. Why does it do this and how can I fix it? My mac book Pro is a 2010 13" running 10.6.6.

Ha! That's your hard drive. I have a late 2006 MBP. I had a hard drive fail after 2 years, then the replacement failed literally after another month. My MBP is now a beautiful server on my closet, but the hard drive is.still fine! 3 words for you: carbon copy cloner. It's free. Use it ASAP, or your stuff will be lost soon. I'm not kidding. Do it now, literally.

I may have been a little.hasty... its possible that the case is.just pushing down on your.hard drive, which isn't so bad (think nails on a chalkboard). But its still bad. In any case, that's what the ticking sound has to be. Remember that sound until you're using an SSD, and hope you never hear it again.

I think maybe the case just pushes down on it a bit. I think my drive will be fine.
