Can't get much greener than that. For those of you who are not familiar with the term, I have posted a Wiki Link |
|
I would if I got payed to. I believe in man-made global warming about as much as I believe in a Mac being affordable so i'm not too excited about it being Green or Eco-Friendly. Also, it's probably not the most comfortable environment. |

I'm all for going green and what not but, no. I would not. |
|
As a bit of a lord of the rings geek, I would probably live in one because it looks like something that i'd imagine to be in that fictional world, but i'd probably do it in a warmer country than the UK. Looks idyllic in the sun though.
I would love to get some pot and just chill in that room. |

Cob house, adobe, straw house, rammed earth: I'd live in any of them, if I were the one to build it. I wouldn't necessarily trust the building of a house using less traditional (20th century) building methods to someone else. My building skills? Yeh, those I'd trust. |
|
I echo the poster above - if I built it, I'd probably be willing to live in one. Not for any green purpose though. Wonder how the rest of my cob-house neighbors will feel about my muscle car roaring up in a cloud of blue smoke every day. I am far from eco-friendly, but I like the idea of living in something built with my own hands. Personal preference goes to a log cabin, though. |

If I would have been asked this question 10 years ago I would have flatly said no and looked at whoever asked me as if they were nuts. My background is in business technologies and networks, so cob and adobe seemed like something out of ancient history. When the economy tanked I ha dto look for a new line of work, so I became a firefighter. It was then that I learned a lot about the properties of adobe and cob. It turns out that they are fireproof and as an added benefit require only a fraction of the normal heating and cooling. They can be built in any style and fashion that you want from basic small huts to palaces. I have begun my own outdoor kitchen project using cob and adobe, that I am journaling at http://earthkitchenproject.blogspot.com ,as an experiment and learning process before building outbuildings or houses. So today I would have to say absolutely that I would live in a cob and adobe house. After visiting some adobe home I found that they are so comfortable and put me at ease like no other house I have ever been in. To have all the benefits and the satisfaction of builing with earth possibly from your own land while building and sculpting your dream home with your own hands at a fraction of the cost of conventional building, how can that be bad? In my opinion there just isn't anything better. |
