Ok, so I'm essentially clueless about web browsers, so I need some help. Right now, I have IE 8, but I've heard that it's not the best web browser to use. So here I pose my question: Should I get a different web browser? Why or why not?

Sorry to ask for so many details, but I want to make sure I get a decent web browser (or stay with one depending on the answers).

Thanks for the help!

Bit hard to answer. If you are a general user, IE8 will suit you fine.

If you like modifying and pluggins FireFox is the way to go.

If you like performance, Opera is by far the fastest as well a booster if you are on low quality Internet.

Try them all, One will feel right. When you find that. USE IT!

Two of the best ones that Jack never mentioned are Safari and Chrome. You should give them a try (I prefer Safari though).

IE 8 is kinda slow and has possible compatibility issues. Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Opera are great ones to try out!

Yea, that's what I've heard. I've also heard that Chrome sends out tracking cookies to keep note of the webpages you visit, so I'm not too keen on that one yet

Sounds like you have got something to hide :P

Hahaha, nahhh, I'm not that kind of person :P I just don't like the idea of being spied on. But I've actually been looking into Opera, but is it capable of doing all the things IE 8 could do, like games, videos, social networking, etc.?

Any browser can do what is now available on the Internet. From Gaming to Social networks. The only difference is the user interface and the speed of the bowser.

I disagree, there is a world of difference between browsers. Okay, they all do the basic functions the same, but the rendering engine between Opera and Safari make a world of difference.

Honestly, I think that Internet Explorer is trying to make a come back. I don't actually think it will ever compare to any of the leading browsers; Safari, FireFox, Chrome etc...

Personally, I prefer to use Google Chrome. I believe that it's the fastest browser on my computers. Each computer may run each browser differently. You need to play around with browsers until you find one that fits you the best.

Yeah you should definitely try some other browsers. I like Google Chrome too, it's fast and simple. Safari and Firefox are also good.

Chrome is in my opinion the best one anyone has mentioned so far but unfortunately Google works in contract with the gov. to track and record all browsing activity. However, there is a browser called SRWare Iron which I use that is essentially a modified version of Chromium(Chrome without extra features offered by Google) that eliminates all methods of tracking and recording. Then again, you might like some of the features Google offers through Chrome in which case I would suggest running Chrome Portable Version from a usb stick as a secondary browser unless you know how to selectively block tracking and recording in Chrome.
