Hi I am running the latest version of a linux distribution and I have a hp pavillion dv3000 notebook. I have a wireless deskset plugged in (microsoft wireless keyboard 1000). when i type on the external keyboard everythings ok but the laptops keys are completely messed up-- one side is normal and the other is just numbers help!!!!!!!!!!!!

you need to change your keyboard configuration in the setup or installation menu according to your region

well if you actually went to the proper menu and configured the keyboard correctly and it still doesn't work then your keyboard may be corrupted

I remember this happened to the old laptop that I used for the longest time before I got this one. I'm sorry to say that I can't remember how I fixed it though, because I just randomly pressed keys until it fixed itself.

Num Lock is on. The external keyboard has the num pad that Num Lock changes, but the internal keyboard (using the same Num Lock) will do the small text on the keys for the numbers.
