I am buying a new Toshiba laptop tomorrow, and am wondering what ways the community uses to remove their stickers from their systems. I don't want the stickers on there. So, how do you remove the stickers on your computer?

The only stickers I am going to be pulling off are the: Windows logo, and the AMD one that sits on top. If I pull those off and for some reason need to return it will I be able to?

I see no reason why not, it's a sticker, but you might want to phone/email and ask

(Jan 31 '11 at 16:35) Tim Fontana Tim%20Fontana's gravatar image

Okay, because I had read somewhere that it does. I am going to assume the ones that state like what type it is don't matter but the Windows one and stuff might. I am not going to worry about it

(Jan 31 '11 at 16:41) TheTechDude TheTechDude's gravatar image

you need to keep the serial keys and numbers and lan card info ones, but they are underneath, so it should be an issue

(Jan 31 '11 at 16:45) Tim Fontana Tim%20Fontana's gravatar image

Right, I mean there are ones like near the keyboard that say like that it has a 500GB hard drive and such. Sorry if I was not clear with that.

(Jan 31 '11 at 16:47) TheTechDude TheTechDude's gravatar image

that's fine too

I use my hand, and a damp cloth. Damp cloth to remove any sticky bits.

This is how I did it. I just peeled them off with my hand.

peel them off then pour a little bit of alcohol off, it lifts off all remaining adhesive, then just wipe it off.

Peel them off with your fingers, it's not that hard unless you ain't got fingernails.

That is what I am going to try first. That is what I did for my current desktop. Just trying to see if anyone has any special warnings for what to/not to use on a laptop. Or any better ideas.

How to Remove Stickers

Instructions

Step 1
Remove stickers from glass, plastic or metal with alcohol-based products such as nail polish remover or 91-percent rubbing alcohol. Oil-based products such as cooking oil, mineral oil and baby oil can also be used. Apply the liquid to a clean cloth and saturate the sticker; allow it to sit for a minute or so and peel the sticker from the surface.

Step 2
Remove stickers from cardboard and other paper products with an alcohol-based product or with a commercial solvent. Apply the liquid to the sticker with a cotton swab until the sticker is saturated. Avoid getting too much liquid on the surrounding surface. Peel the sticker away.

Step 3
Remove stickers from wood with furniture polish or any of the products listed in step 1. Again, saturate the sticker with the liquid and allow it to sit for 1 to 2 minutes. Peel the sticker away.

Step 4
Saturate stickers that are on hard plastic surfaces (plastic tubs or food storage containers) with cooking oil. Allow the sticker to soften, then immerse it in water. Wipe the sticker away.

Step 5
Repeat the sticker-removal process if any gummy residue remains after the first treatment. Scrape residue with a paint scraper or razor blade.

I think that is going to be my first way. I have read some things saying that Goo Gone will remove the shine or something from the computer. I don't want that happening on a brand new computer.

(Jan 30 '11 at 22:26) TheTechDude TheTechDude's gravatar image

Wet Cloth. Not dripping yet though. I used that on mine.

If you haven't brought it yet then just get a mac and there will be no stickers :P

NO. THIS IS NOT A SOLUTION. I really wish all you people would understand that not everyone wants a Mac, nor can they always afford them. This isn't even an answer to the question

I'll buy a Mac if you pay for it.

I tried using a Mac before and didn't like it. If I wanted a Mac I would have bought one.

Peanut butter??? That is a interesting idea. Don't see how it would help the only thing that I can think would be rubbing. But that is the same with or without it....

My mother taught it to me a while back, I have no clue why it works, but it does.

(Jan 30 '11 at 22:47) xboxps3 xboxps3's gravatar image

Okay, I may try it. Thanks

(Jan 30 '11 at 22:50) TheTechDude TheTechDude's gravatar image

But then you have to get the peanut butter off...

(Jan 30 '11 at 23:04) Ryan Sweigert Ryan%20Sweigert's gravatar image

True...And I can't stand the smell of peanut butter. This will be my last resort.

Remove the sticker with your fingers. Then get a cotton swab and put some Orange glow, or any other decal remover on the swab, swab over the the residue and let it sit on there for a while. Then remove the rest with your fingers. Repeat if necessary. If its a printed design, Like Air jet printed. Use a sugar cube and scratch it off.

Something natural is best like peanut butter the oil loosens the adhesive. But if you have one that's suborn get a tissue and lightly spray it with WD-40 and wipe the sticky area and let sit for a few minutes and wipe off

+1. WD-40 works very well. However, use a soft cloth vs. paper towels. Paper towels can actually scratch a shiny surface (like the super-shiny Toshiba surfaces).

Ok - now for the most realistic answer.

There are two types of stickers usually. The ones you can get off with your finger, and the ones you can't.

The ones you can't, use Goo Gone. I don't know one person that doesn't have even a small bottle of this at least in their kitchen, utility drawer, garage, basement, etc.

Get as much of the sticker off as you can FIRST, then use a paper towel, or rage with the Goo Gone, and wipe the rest off.

I have done this 1000's of times, because I HATE stickers on laptops or PC towers/monitors, etc.

Simple.

OK, First just peel off the stickers that you can with your finger. Any residue sticker glue or paper backing, just apply a small drop of WD-40 lubricant to a clean dry paper towel and gently blot, rub over the sticker area. Continue this using the WD-40 and clean part of the paper towel until area is sticker free.. I work as a tech at ?? Inc.. and we have been using this method for the last 10 years I have worked there with no problems or damage to plastic or metal parts..WD-40 does not contain acetone.
