I wonder what kind of calendar software is best out there? I'm currently using Google Calendar (which is fine) but I have recently wondered if there are any better. I like Google Calendar because it's free and very simple to use, but it does have some stuff that I wish wasn't there and so forth. Hence, the reason I thought about maybe looking for something else.

Any suggestions?

Sunbird is no longer being developed or supported. If you're using Windows, you might take a look at VueMinder Calendar. There's a free "Lite" version, or if you're looking for more capability, a paid "Pro" version. VueMinder is very easy to use, runs in the background with minimal resources, and does a great job providing reminders.

This one looks really cool: http://iscrybe.com/main/index.php

I don't have a need for it myself but I was extremely impressed with the early beta demo. Worth looking into.

Didn't Mozilla abandon development and support for Sunbird in early 2010?

I use the Hotmail calendar. It works really well with Windows Live Mail. It automatically syncs the desktop with the web. It has almost all the options I've needed for reminders or reoccuring events. Another useful feature is having different calendars (e.g. a personal one, a work one). It will display all of the events on one calendar with different colors.
