Hey everyone! I'm looking for a free video compressor to use for uploading youtube videos. I do 3D things and was wondering if there was anyone with a good recommendation. It needs to be able to compress .avi's. thanks for reading!

Depending on the codec inside the avi file· There are numerous different codecs inside the avi codec (like divX, Xvid, Mpeg 4, etc). You can try Mpeg Streamclip or Miro video converter which are free

Format Factory for windows (works under wine in linux) is my favourite. It can convert pretty much anything from anything to anything.

Did I mention that it's free too?

The most vertisal and configurable media encoder I've found is MediaCoder. It has done every format I've given it (even a very rare one). It will encode to almost any format you could ever want. It has all the settings so you can get the size you want and the quality you want.
