I am currently in the market for some headphone, two types.

Firstly, I'm looking for Over-Ear studio headphones with a detachable cable. Price is no object (Within reason), but no damn Beats by Dr. Dre.

Secondly I'm looking for some headphones to use with my iPhone. They need to be standard Sit-In-Ear or In-Ear ones and mustn't have noise canceling and must have a controller and a microphone. Once again, price no object (Within reason).

So If anybody could suggest some then please tell me.

i bought myself a pair of Sennheiser HD 558's for Christmas, and they are very nice. I'd had the Audio Technica ATH-AD700's but I ended up sending them back as they were not to my liking. I wrote what must be the only negative review about them on Amazon (UK site).

I'm qualified in music technology, so I'm not just the average guy talking about headphones. ;)

I also tried to find some decent headphones like that for my iphone, however the only decent ones were the ear canal type, which don't really agree with my ears, so I ended up getting a pair of Sennheiser MX 880's, which are just regular headphones.

At the end of the day, it might be best for you to go to a good audio store and have a good listen to some headphones and see what you like. Not everyone likes the same things in headphones.

I recently got a pair of Logitech G35 7.1 virtual surround sound over ear headphones for my pc it has a usb cable so you have to use them with a computer but they are amazing you wont believe the immersion and the highs and lows are amazing and they are among the most comfortable pair i also have ever had their a lil pricy tho depending where you get them it oculd run you 90-130 bucks but well worth the price might not be what your looking for specifically but i love the ability to change the volume with the scroll wheel on the side of the left earpiece and use the programmable g keys as well and theres also a switch to switch between surround and stereo heres a link to them if you wnat more info. oh and the built in microphone is great too and it flips up when not in use and its noise canceling

That looks good, but isn't it designed for gaming?

Please don't use in-ear headphones. Anything over 85 dB can permanently damage your hearing in a very short time. Our company has a therapeutic listening program, headphones have to be reasonable but allow as much of the music detail to come through as possible for auditory training purposes. We recommend the Sennheiser HD 555 or HD515 at this point. I assume the 558 is similar

Indeed, I have some Apple In-Ear ones which sound great but when I'm out and about I don't really want noise cancelation. Those Sennheiser's look good. Thanks.

The HD558's are the updated version of the HD555's. Same as the HD518's are the updated version of the HD515's.

The over ear headphones that I recommended is the Bose CQ15's. The audio quality is great...but noise canceling could be better. They might be a bit out of your price range though.

As for in-ear headphones the Bose IE2 headphones. They are excellent. I have a pair that I use every day. The new tips on them are something that you think would be weird. But you actually can't even tell that they are in your ears.

I am sure that you probably think I am a Bose "fanboy" but they really have great sound. Try them out at a store and you will see what I mean. A even better way would be to see if a friend of yours has them and you could try those because then you can chose the music you try.

Ahh, thank you for the suggestion. I'll add them to my list of try out's when I go to the audio store. &)

Oh and I meant like standard headphones, not ones with tips, like the ones you get standard with an iPhone/iPod, but you know, a good version. In-Ear ones have to much noise cancelation for when I'm out and about.

The IE2's say on the box that they are not noise canceling. I bought them for that reason so that when I am walking around I can still hear things. Now If you crank them up all the way then they will cancel out most noise but at a normal volume they don't cancel noise. The also don't go in your ears very much. I can't stand ones that do that...

Ohhh right okay, I'll give them a try then.

I've been an audiophile for years now, and for over-ear phones, I've always loved my Koss PRO-4AA headphones. They have been known sometimes as the "grandaddy" of studio-quality phones. Now granted, they are HEAVY, but the sound you get from these is perfect, especially if you're doing any kind of audio work.

Scroll down this page for the specs...it's pretty impressive for a "design" that's over 40 years old now.

For cans the Sennheiser HD-25's, becomng the industry standard among dj's because of the great sound quality and the level of noise they block out (against club speakers/pa systems etc)
