In protection wise, it is pretty good because there are shock jocks around the corners which would definitely protect your iPhone from a drop. Fashion wise, it would be a problem because there are a lot of colors!

Anything made by VajaCases.com -- custom Argentinian leather. Supremely well made, durable and beautiful... albeit pricey. Specifically, I recommend their iVolution iPhone cases: alt text

For protection and enjoying the outdoors without worrying about mucking up an expensive case, however, I just use a Seidio Innocase II on my 3G:

SGP have some really nice cases ! for under £20 that include full body screen(front and back) protectors..And sgp are known for their great screen protectors ! They come as bumpers(Back of iPhone 4 is shown) or closed back( Cut out for apple logo and camera) They look awesome and have alot of different colours ! alt text
