I like K-Lite Codec Pack they have every Codec you need and it has Windows Media Player Classic which is the best

vlc is great it can play everything it can play flash video (.flv) i use it to play many of my video, but i use itunes to play my music.

VLC. I have been using VLC Media Player for 2 years now and it plays any format. VLC is also open source and cross platform!
