Just asking a quick question about the fan on my laptop. Back in september of 2010 I got an iMac, and i didn't turn the laptop on since about to days ago, and the fan is going crazy since then. I was thinking it was dusty and i ran a vacuum down the back of the laptop and it is still not working. The fan is still going crazy. Can you help or direct me some were else.

Thanks for reading, Declan

after a fan sits for a while the lubricant turns solid. you can run it for a while and it could start to work better, or replace the fan... i would try to use a heavy duty shop vac to suck out the dust, spend a good deal of time, sometimes it needs to get loose. then let it run it should become quieter. but keep an eye on the heat of the laptop, it is still possible that the fan could be damaged and need to be replaced anyways.

DO NOT USE COMPRESSED AIR.... on a different note, never use compressed air on any computer it contains a good deal of water vapor which can condense on the electronics, use CO2 in short spurts while the can is upright, do not use it for long as that can cause liquid CO2 to spray onto your bored and water from the air to condense.

Try compressed air. It will work better than vacuum. If that doesn't work, your heat sink paste may be toast.

DO NOT USE COMPRESSED AIR. compressed air will only serve to push the dust further into the laptop and cause it to overheat.

Definitely use compressed air to air out the fans ventilation, and if that doesn't work, take a look inside to see if a more serious obstruction is causing the problem.

arrrg... once again DO NOT USE COMPRESSED AIR. compressed air will only serve to push the dust further into the laptop and cause it to overheat.
