Geeks and Geekess's, I am going to make a technology news site, but I need a name. I want something SHORT catchy like Gizmodo, Engadget, TechnoBuffalo, etc. I am going to purchase either a .com or .net domain (possibly .tv for the YouTube channel) Any suggestions? |

Hah! What a loaded question. Aren't you afraid someone will come here, read the suggestions, and register the name before you have a chance? There was actually a registrar a while back that got in trouble because people would look up potentials on their whois service, and if the domain didn't exist, the registrar would "reserve" it for you. So that meant you HAD to register it through them! They were holding nonexistent domain names hostage. I do have some suggestions. Don't make it a really long name like "thisismystudionamesite.com" and don't include words that have alternate spellings like "there/their" and "here/hear". You'll regret this trying to tell someone your email address over the phone sometime. Once you choose your domain name you may want a second domain name that's like a really short version of it, for purposes of easy to spell out emails. Like, if your site is CoolGadgetsHere.com, you might want to register "coolgad.com" too. Also avoid dashes in the domain name, even though they are permitted. And check for company names that may already exist, or you may end up changing your domain name later. |

I was choosing whether to snipe that domain or not, but I won't. All I can say is don't buy a domain from GoDaddy or any place like that. You can get any domain I want for $4.95 from Netfirms, just google for a promo code! |

Lockergnome.net... wait that's all ready taken- Facebook... wait, that's taken too- youtube.com/lockergnome... wait, by looking at this trend, I bet this is taken too! |
