For televisions I think 1080p is around for a while, but the next resolution will probably be 4k. That's 4096x4096.

Nope, it's more like 4096x2304 if it's widescreen... 4096x4096 would be completely square (4:4)! Even old 4:3 TVs were more widescreen than that!

We already have higher standards; the problem is that current mass-market hardware can't support it yet.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2160p

  • 360p (Standard TV)
  • 480p (Good TV)
  • 720p (Standard HDTV)
  • 1080p (Good HDTV)
  • 2160p ("QUAD HD")
  • 4K (Named thusly just to be different)

On a lighter note, I can watch 2160p video. Kinda.

The most common resolution is 1920x1200. And then after that it's 2560x1600

I think they will call it 2k, but not sure exactly what the resolution will be. I also think the i and p will be dropped and assumed to be progressive.

the new resolution standards might be 2000k or 4000k resolution. only because what the movie industry has we get years later and currently they are using 4k cameras like the red one series.
