I have a LG LE8500 TV and need a compatible usb adapter for internet access. Is it necessary to purchase LG's AN-WF100, IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n adapter or would other usb 802.11n work as well?

Thank you,

From my understanding you'll need to purchase LG's adapter. I believe it states that in the documentation unless it's changed recently.

Wireless N is backwards compatible with B & G, so the answer is yes, Wireless N would work as well.

I does have a ethernet port and can be hardwired direct to the router. The usb dongle, it's called is not included and can be purchased for around $45 off eBay. but you can also get adapters for $10 to $20 and don't wish to pay double just for a logo.

Thank you for clarifying that, I suppose I need to revise my answer then...

Thanks for clearing that up for me. Some mfg give you a sense that their optional accessories are proprietary and charge outrageous $$$ when the same item without the logo can be a fraction of the cost.

You may be able to research the particular chipset that is required by the LG device and try alternative wireless adapters. It worked on several devices who's manufacturers try and rip you off for what could cost a lot less. TiVo for example had a wireless 802.11b adapter which did was able to be swapped out for a far superior and cheaper adaptor. If you can accomplish the same goal using an RJ45 connection, it may be better to get a router which supports DD-WRT and use that to bridge the current wireless connection to your LG device that way. There's a lot of documentation on how to do that all over the Internet.

I found it, thanks for the info. So I would assume any adapter with the same specs would be compatible?
