Hey guys. I make tech related videos on YouTube and I am constantly trying to look for a good background for the few minutes of video where I show myself and introduce the video and I wanted to know if you guys think this is a good background. I want to look more professional so people take me more seriously on my videos. Maybe I could buy a green screen and turn the green into white and make text appear around me relevant to the video.. What do you guys think? alt text

If you tidy up your desk a little bit more, it would be fantastic.

It also looks like you know something about the "Rule of Thirds." Well, if it was mere circumstance, the rule of thirds is a more professional looking camera shot. If you moved just slightly more to the left (of the image), you would've nailed it. It's not a bad shot, but if you are looking for 100% perfection, that's what you'd do (just don't move more than a couple inches in real life).

So pretty much, you want to have your eye (that's closest to the center of the image) to be as close to the intersection of the two lines as you can (refer to image below).
Rule of Thirds image
What you have is very livable, and it's better than having your face on the lower third of the screen or having it just dead in the center.

And another thing that you're doing right is that you have the background at an angle. This provides depth to the image, and makes it look better.

Tech boxes always add to the background.

Yeah this is one of my favorite background but I don't have many tech boxes like to fill up a whole wall.. But when I do I'm sure I'll use it..

open up more stuff on your PC, professionals dont watch an empty desktop. :) Good Luck.

Or use a screensaver...

Thanks.. I think I'll try the screensavers thing

It's best to use a plain backdrop, as you don't want your viewers distracted by your cool stuff in the background, if you want attention, make sure there is little else to center on other than you, the Tech/speaker.

Just my 2 Cents...

You look professional in this picture. Just one thing, Since you are using Windows 7, why don't you use widgets for those notes ??

I think this is a good background and it looks more professional and natural than a white background. Best of luck.

It looks nice, makes me rethink the setup I plan on useing for my tech show once it goes live(preparing for the past few days)

keep the angle but maybe don't show the door[or whatever the brown flat surface is]. I think it kinda takes the average eye away from the tech scenery.......you got all this complication[which is nice] on your desk, but a plain surrounding
