Over the years my iTunes files/librarys/playlists/artwork etc. have managed to find themselves all over my PC, some were on my C: drive some were on an external harddrive etc. I have now got the whole lot onto my 1 terrabyte external harddrive but alas are still in various files and not consolidated. I have purchased a new laptop and was about to download iTunes but want my external harddrive to be tidy before I download iTunes and can be in a better position than what I was before. Also I don't have a clue where to point iTunes now on the external harddrive. I have read some blogs of how to tidy iTunes but it also involves deleting files etc once tidied which is what scares me as I would go crazy if I lost all my music. Can you help me or suggest a product to perform the above tidy up/consolidation? (I have emailed TidySongs but they cannot help) Thanks a million. |

Scrap iTunes, purely because of what it does. I kept my music library perfect, in the order I wanted it. I installed iTunes and it completly mashed up my personal file system for it. I am now having to re-download it all (it IS purchased, I do have CD's, its just easier to download) because iTunes actually deleted some of my collection. I use a program called WinAmp (www.winamp.com). it supports the Libary, and it doesnt EVER change a file in your music directory unless you spacifically tell it to. (AND it supports iPod's for music / video transfers, yet to find an app plugin for it) If you're using Mac OS X / Linux, this option will be unavalable to you because it's not been ported, and I dont hear news of it being ported any time soon, in which case, I suggest a program called VLC Media player (www.videolan.com). it doesnt support library, so you will have to use explorer/finder/whatever to browse your library, but VLC plays every file i've thrown at it so far, even though they were damaged / half-downloaded. Hope this helps, Virusless (Dr Toxic) |
