Now that the iPad was released, Steve Jobs said that PCs would begin to be less and less used. Ballmer says the opposite. What do you think? Will PCs be more or less used in the near future? And in the distant future? And what about laptops? Or netbooks? |

I believe the future is in tablet devices, especially internet and multimedia tablets. The prime example of this is the Archos 5, 500GB edition, which is slightly bigger than a PSP Go, but boasts a 500GB internal hard-drive, touch-screen, and also runs the Android OS by Google. If tablet devices grow in popularity, I think they could replace the desktop PC. |

Desktops will always be more powerful than laptops. Laptops will always be more powerful then gadgets. With portability it goes gadget>laptop>desktop. Today's tablet are much closer in power to gadgets. It all depends on power and portability. Some people need the truck, others need the car, other like to have a bike. I can see tablets being more popular than the average user but some things require lots of power, others require portability. Yes we will still use desktops but they will be more for the high power applications( pro audio and video, animation etc....) |

All three of these devices will always have a use. Chris is a perfect example. He has his MacPro for all of his main office work. Which is perfectly suited to him. He then has his MacBookpro for when he is traveling long distance or will be out of the office for a couple of days. he also has hi s iPad if he is going to an event for an evening. So if you want to stay connected, then all of them are perfect and will always have a use. |
I think overall, electronic devices will become more and more powerfull. We will always have machines at home that aren't practical to carry around that have 3-4 times the power of our mobile devices, but the mobile devices in 10 years time will make todays desktops look dinky. And Desktops then will be insane. |
i think us geeks will always use laptops and desktops, but the average user will just have a small gadget or a tablet. |
For the average home user, it's headed in the direction of hand-held devices and laptops. If tablets take hold, laptops will probably disappear from the homes of average users. I'd like to see a device that makes use of the internet and digital media easy for the ordinary user. The iPad came close, but it has room for improvement. The next few years, in terms of technology, will be very interesting. |
I think it will trend towards more portable devices such as the iPad where it will then be powerful enough to take on desktop abilities when plugged onto a monitor for home use. |
All three will have a use no matter what time-frame we are in. Desktops for at home users who want power, laptops for people who want a desktop-os to be with them, gadgets when people don't need too much power |
