Plugged in Not Charging?

I have a laptop thats a year and two months old and my charger broke so i replaced it with a universal antec one and now i have it plugged in and it charges but windows doesnt acknowledge that its plugged in and thinks its on battery power. this is a problem for updates were it doesnt allow updates unless plugged in . any ides? also im running windows 7 home premium on a hp g61-320ca
