I suggest getting the specified charger from hp. That is always the best choice when you buy a charger.

Does this universal have adjustable voltage settings?

If so, did you match up the voltage to the laptop's battery info or the label on the bottom of the Laptop?

I've bought unbrand chargers before and I've always had better luck with HP chargers. Go on Amazon.com and buy an HP replacement charger.
