Which file format is better and has a better quality? AVI or WMV? Between these two file formats which one would your prefer to use.

Avi is just a container of many different formats (MJPEG, DivX, XviD, MPEG4, etc).

For me, I prefer avi with the core codec being MPEG 4 or XVid

AVI, because it lets you use whatever codec you want. Depending on the codec/quality used when encoding the video, it can be just as good as uncompressed formats.

The most important thing is to stay away from ASF files. They suck at keyframes/seeking.

.WMV is supposed to have better compression and quality but nothing plays it besides Windows Media Player. I always stick with .AVI just because it's common
