From what I have seen, yes. It is way better than the current Windows mobile operating systems. If Microsoft can partner with a really good phone manufacturer like HTC than I can defiantly see their market share rising.

The phone OS looks amazing. It looks just like the Zune HD os, which i like a lot. I can't wait to try it.

I'm starting to question it after info about it running on Windows CE has come out. Besides this dilemma, it would seem Microsoft finally "gets it". Back around 2000, Microsoft wanted to get into the mobile arena with their Windows product, starting the development of CE. The manager of the project wanted to do it in a different way from the desktop metaphor, however Bill Gates wanted it to be just like the desktop version of Windows... This manager, typed in an email in 2000, telling them it wouldn't work as a mobile platform, that it would fail. 10 years later, Microsoft's CE strategy barely made a dent in the market, except through Windows Mobile Phones... which are now also slipping.

Now, learning from their mistakes and taking inspiration from the iPhone strategy (as 2 Windows Phone 7 managers have said ), they plan to create a more strict, stable, and mobile based platform. Apparently it'll have CE in the Core, but a UI similar to the Zune. I personally love that Microsoft is finally "Getting it", that they are actually working on a product, that if done right, could be a very strong competitor to the iPhone OS. Sadly, iPhone OS is not just for phones, but Microsoft has said Windows Phone 7 is only for phones... not tablets.
