I just recently got a video camera that records great 1080p video but I'm having a dilemma. I just filmed a 1080p video and when I'm exporting in Final Cut Pro, it ends up being around 7GB which would take way to long to upload to YouTube. My friend is recommending using applications like MPEG Streamclip to reduce file size but I don't want to lose quality. What export settings should I use to reduce file size? |

Though Youtube does not have a recommended settings, I think these are the best for Youtbe without going crazy in filesize.

I just use compressor. That's what it's there for. When you open up Compressor it shows a bunch of templates for you to choose from. There's a Youtube template but don't choose it, it's only 720p. Hit cancel, go to the Settings tab and go into Apple>Other Workflows>Web. Then right click on "YouTube sharing," and click "Duplicate." It will show up in the Custom folder as "YouTube sharing copy." Make sure it's selected, then go to the Geometry tab in the Inspector window. Change the frame size to 1920x1080. Then change the name if you want and hit "Save" at the bottom. So then you've created a compression setting that is the same as the default YouTube setting, you've just changed it from 720p to 1080p. It seems like a lot to go through but if you set it up once, it's easy to use over and over. I use this setting for all my Youtube videos and it works well for me. The file size is cut down a lot with minimal sacrifice in quality. |
