I want my own website but haven't got a clue on what to do really, more on the buying a domain name side. Where should I buy a domain from and how much should I expect to be charged? I have found a website, names.co.uk, that offers 1 year for £15, is this the average price or a scam?

£15 is a bit of a rip off in my opinion. You can get a .co.uk on Godaddy for $9USD.

godaddy.com Is good. I've gotten domain names and hosting with them before. Although I'm not in the know on the actual website creation side.

Okay thanks, could you please tell me if spending the £15 on the domain name will include web space or not?

Godaddy offers Web Site Tonight, there free website builder free with the purchase of a domain name. It's decent, but not great. For a first website, it's fine.

Domain names ending in .co.uk can be bought @ GBP 9.99 for two years on names.co.uk. I guess the GBP 15 should include hosting. I see this site offers free hosting if you purchase a .co.uk domain name for two years.

Domain names ending in .com cost GBP 24.99 for two years. This looks more expensive than GoDaddy.

I think GoDaddy is good place to go, where you can buy a domain name, hosting and a build a site using a "site builder." You get a discount when you bundle products together.

why pay for domain names .co.uk when .co.cc is free?

Some people find more satisfaction in having a .co.uk domain.

You can create your website for free(don't pay) and still have a nice site: use something like http://www.000webhost.com/ for getting the domain. For free domain names use: .tk or .co.cc.

If you are getting started on webpages I recommend using webs which is a good place to get started, the pages have pay ver if you want to upgrade later on.

I don't recommend going with this webhost as I've found it to be unreliable and a bit sneaky.

000webhost randomly closed my account on them when all I had on my site was that is was under construction. I am actually currently using webs from my hosting and it is good.

I am using webs for my gaming clan website, but I use 000webhost for my main page :/, I had a domain w/ Goddady and they closed it without my permission and had a lot of trouble with their crappy and useless service, but w/ 000webhost haven't got a trouble =/ For me is going fine.

Buying a Domain Name is only the first step in creating a website. Along with the Domain Name, you need to purchase a hosting plan package so your website actually shows up. I would highly recommend going with GoDaddy. They are very cheap and reliable.

As far as actually building your website, using WordPress or SquareSpace is probably the easiest solution. WordPress is free (this is what I use and Chris Pirillo use's to build our websites) and SquareSpace is a paid service. With these, you need to set up MySQL so your hosting package recognizes the source so your website goes live.

Chris Pirillo's website: http://chris.pirillo.com

These will show you two ways of how you can use WordPress. With WordPress, themes are endless! You can get hundreds of free themes or paid themes. Totally up to your budget.

I would recommend using Streamline.net and buying the hosting and getting the domain for free.

Beware of repeat payments as these can jump up steeply. For example on names.co.uk I brought a .co.uk for a year for £9.99, for the second year it cost me £30.00 SO watch out for that.

ENJOY :D
