Internet Explorer 9 was just announced by Microsoft. What do you think of it now that it has come out of beta? Have you seen any increases over the beta? Do you like it? And do you see using it as your main web browser? To download the new version see here: http://www.beautyoftheweb.com/

Edit, I like the new browser much more than IE8. It is faster and looks a lot better. I am having no issues so far. And I might switch back to using it as my main browser or at least use it more often than I used to.

I have tried the beta and the RC, and they were quite good, especially considering IE's history.

The only major gripe I have with it, is that it isn't compatible with XP. Does Microsoft not realize that a huge percentage of Windows users are using XP?

I think that their reasoning was that there are features that allow them to use hardware acceleration and stuff that Windows XP doesn't support.

IE9 uses Aero and related technologies to render HTML5, though I suppose XP could just do without. One must also consider Microsoft doesn't want you to use XP; they want you to buy 7.

The only thing I dislike is that IE9 is not compatible with any popular browser add-ons. Microsoft refuses to accept that extensions/add-ons make the web more desirable and easrier to use.

I think of using it to download Chrome.

It's alright. They'll need more features to take me off Chrome, even if it is slower.

It's a good upgrade. But I'm not switching from Chrome. Besides, if I need to use IE, I have the IE extension in Chrome.

Overall, it is a step forward for Microsoft but I don't think it's a big enough step.

Continued support for Windows XP would be counterproductive for Microsoft. With their attempts to EOL Windows XP, it makes sense to stop internal software development for it.

Most of the Windows XP customers who will not be swayed to upgrade by Microsoft's move are business customers - a vast number of whom are still running IE6 to support aging, non-standards compliant intranet/internet applications. Lack of IE9 won't affect them in the slightest.

It's a tolerable offering. Nothing special.

Overall, nice appearance and smooth operation. Seems faster than previous versions. The new location of some of the tools I use will take some getting used to but I don't see that as a major drawback. I like how they moved the tabs to the top to allow more actual window space. Now we'll just sit back and wait for critical updates to start flying out.

IE has been my browser since the time before time. Now that it doesn't suck, I can say that without covering my eyes to protect them from the things people throw at me when I tell them so.

Really? You've been using IE since before humans existed? Damn, you're old. Wait, since you obviously know what computers were like before time, what was the predominant OS?

Indeed, it's all true. Back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth, we used Windows 95. As you may know, not all dinosaurs went extinct; in fact 7 is a direct descendant of the 95osaur.

I used to stand behind IE all the time. And then when IE8 came out I switched to Google Chrome and have been using that as my main browser for a long time. I might now switch back.

For some time I stuck with IE6 just because of its slim UI. Then nothing happened for a really, really long time. Then Google Chrome came out and b*-slapped someone at Microsoft and they returned to the proud tradition with IE9. So I'm a happy guy.

I like it, a lot of people automatically think that is is going to be crap because of the other ones that actually were, but it's really not crap.
