I am considering buying a Dell Inspiron. I want to buy a good desktop because I am fed up with my laptop's 1.6 Ghz processor. This Dell has a 3.2 Ghz processor which led me to wonder what the difference is between an i3 and Pentium?

This link might help you understand your question a little bit better.
I actually recommend building your own computer if you know enought about building computers, because you can build a full fledged computer for under $1,000. You can buy a system that runs efficient and fast for only about ~$500. If you need help with this, I can recommend hardware.

Well, Pentium has a single core(I think)and has the specified speed. i3 processors dont target speed. They target cores. So if it were a 2.63GH processor, it would be exponentially faster then the Pentium. And, if you want a recommendation for a processor, just ask. All depends on your needs
