Ok so when I press alt+tab the window previews hide the tab selection window. This has just randomly started. I only noticed it after installing ie9.

I'm having the same problem but I'm enjoying using IE9. One thing you can do is turn off the Areo Peek. This will keep the Alt+Tab on top but it won't hide the other windows during the preview. Try this if you'd like to continue using IE9. Control Panel - Performance Information and Tools - Adjust visual effects - uncheck Enable Aero Peek

Thanks. I use Chrome mainly so its not too much of a problem. I will retry ie9 in a few months, after Microsoft have sorted things out.

I'm seeing the same problem myself. I also have IE9 installed. Does anyone have any other suggestions before I uninstall IE9?
