Im going to be purchasing a new MacBook Pro (2.2ghz model), and I'm debating between the 750gb hard drive spinning at 5400 rpm as oppose to the 500gb hard drive spinning at 7200 rpm. The cost here is equivilent, and I don't mind giving up the extra storage for a faster hard drive, although I do have a few concerns. Any info is greatly appreciated.

  1. I know that the faster spinning hard drive will obviously deplete the battery faster, but how much faster, and is it something I should be worried about.
  2. Is the faster spinning hard drive noisier? Has anyone heard of people having issue with it?
  3. Is it more likely to fail, or wear out faster as it is gaining more "wear" over the years than the slower spinning one.

the 500GB will be able to access data faster but it will wear out a bit faster, 750GB will hold a lot more data. The boost in the RPM is not that big of a deal since you wont really notice it so go with the 750GB HDD.

I say go with the 7200 RPM i have a 5200 and i regret not going for the 7200, a faster HD will greatly incense boot times.
