At first I wasn't going to answer, but after reading some of the answers and seeing some of the ignorant comments, it bothers me to know you're getting false information, from people who obviously know nothing about the Nintendo 3DS. I have one. And I love it. Yes, it will make you feel some strange discomfort, and possibly a headache or motion sickness, but I got mine on day one, and I only had those problems on the first day. After that, it was fine. Like a new pair of glasses. Have to get used to it. And if it bothers you too much, you can just turn the 3D off, or turn it down to a level where it isn't so uncomfortable. See that little gray thing on the right side of the top half? That's the 'Depth Slider' It's how you control the 3D. And I most of the time play with it off, and only turn it on every now and then when I feel like seeing how something looks, or if I'm taking a picture, that way later I can view it in both 3D and 2D.
Also, even if you're not in it for the 3D, if you're just in the market for a new DS, this is an amazing chance. It's backwards compatible with all existing DS games, and with the addition of the Circle-Pad joystick(which is SO much better than the one on the PSP, and don't worry, the D-Pad is still there for the hardcore D-Pad junkies), it's almost enough to make me happy, but the 3DS is nearly as powerful as the Wii also. I know, the Wii isn't very powerful for a home system, but putting that on a handheld is just amazing! Can you imagine what they can do to it!?
Besides, they're cutting DS games soon, and if you want DS games, you'll have to buy a 3DS, because they're going to be producing every future game after about six months from now on the 3DS only, and they can't be put on the last DS model because of two things;
1. The newly designed game cards(only difference is a little tab sticking out on the top so it wont fit in the last DS model)
2. And it also wont be strong enough to run the games, which is why they added the tab, so no one could try and break the card, or the system.
So in short, if you like the DS, and it wont be too much trouble to pay the 264.99(Yes, I still remember what the cashier told me... Lol,), get it. Even if you have to save up. But I say you should wait till around May, unless you can get games for it when you get it. I wasn't able to get a game day 1, and still haven't, and I'm already bored with the built in stuff. I do have my DS games, but let's just say, for reasons, can't play them on my 3DS at this time, and in May, there's gonna be an update to bring the eStore(which uses actual currency so no more buying Nintendo points), the new and improved Internet Browser, and of course, other stuff they haven't mentioned, and I'm hoping for video recording, because they released an update recently that came with a video that got put on the system, a different video depending on your country, but they're showing right there that the 3DS can play video, and they have already said recently that they like the idea of 3D video recording, and I'm expecting probably direct uploads to YouTube.
Hope that helped.

Also, my opinion on it.... I like it. Could have just said that from the start. ^-^
