I was wondering what the most widely used programming language is as I am interested in learning and would like something that is compatible and such.

Java is perhaps most widely used programming language because it can be ported onto any OS. However, Java programs have a reputation to be much slower than programs written in other languages because it required an interpreter on the OS. Other lower-level programming languages can more ideal for algorithms that require efficiency. Also, because Java is a widely learned language, Java programmers earn less.

HTML is not a programming language. It's a markup language. It can't represent algorithms.

i am very sorry but i cannot understand why html can't represent algorithms, also can html5 represent algorithms?

this question is a hard one, depends on your specific scope, for example everything is binary, everything uses it, if you thought about small computer systems for factories and plants you would use ladder diagram or booleon. if you were programing multimedia flash's action script or the new html5, java is a very common language however for some tasks is defiantly not the most efficient, you need to work out the scope before this can be answered correctly

C became king this year slightly beating out Java at around 18.058% of the market, with Java almost tied with it at 18.051% (continuing to fall in popularity this year), then C++, then PHP, then VisualBASIC, then C#, Python, Perl, Delphi, JavaScript, Objective-C, Ruby, etc etc etc.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the C1X C standard coming out at some point this year...

Java, the C languages (C, C++, C#, Objective-C), VB, and Python. I like C and Python a LOT and I have been meaning to learn Java for a long time, but I haven't gotten to it yet. If my Comp Sci teacher lets me out of her class (a possibility, pending), I get to go to a library and learn programming languages. Java will be just under the rest of C on that list.
