Here is the thing: I want to get into the zelda series, but have no idea where to start.
The series is really appealing, but there are so many games that im not sure.
Any tips, or suggestions for a noob like myself?

If you truly want to "get into it", I would suggest starting at the very beginning, with the NES Zelda I and II, and work your way up from there. The Zelda phenomena is really a well-told storyline, and was fun while I had the time for it years ago. I have Zelda: Twilight Princess for the Wii, and play it occasionally, when I have time.

This is correct. If you really want the true full Zelda experience, What Rizzy says is where you should truly start.

I truly recommend you try A Link to the Past. In my opinion it's one of the best games ever made. It has all the elements every other next Zelda game kept. :)

I would start with The Ocarina of Time. That's the one I started with and I LOVE playing every zelda game out.

Do you own/Are you planning to buy an Nintendo 3DS? If so, I would suggest picking up the remake of Ocarina of Time coming out in June. Also with the 3DS, you'll be able to download some of the older games, via eShop, and some, like Link's Awaking, are getting remastered for 3D, and put on the eShop. But the eShop isn't coming until May.

I have a friend who owns a 3ds, its cool and that, but its overpriced. All it is is three screens in one, that create an illusion of 3d. I'd rather play on a 3D hdtv

Each Zelda game tells you a bit of the whole entire scheme of the series. Minish Cap is kinda the begining of the storyline because it explains how he got he Cap. Now I don't want to be a spoiler so I won't say more about how and why things are in the series...just go and have fun playing whatever you can get your hands on! :)
