My mom wants to buy herself a new desktop for video/photo editing, and refuses to take my advice and let me build it for her. We're currently stuck between a dual-core Phenom II HP desktop and a quad-core Athlon II Acer desktop. I'm wondering which company has the best build quality or service, as that will be the deciding factor. |

I would go with HP on this one, because I've had some bad experiences (with reliability) with Acer compared to HP. I think build quality is pretty much the same between the two companies. |

My dad had an Acer laptop. The harddrive was malfunctioning out of the box, and half the ram just stopped working after a year or so. But, I bough a cheap Acer laptop three or four years ago, I used it for a few years, and after I bought an iMac, I gave it to my mom, and it still works fine. So, I don't really know what to think of Acer, but I have never had a problem with my HP netbook. |
