Do you speak any language other then English? Slash American...

I don't speak any other languages fluently, but I've found that the best way to learn another language is to communicate with other people that speak the language. If you ask in a language forum you might find someone that speaks the language you want to learn and wants to learn English, you could then help each other through services like Skype.

I recommend watching Movies, series , etc in the language you want to learn and put the subtitles in English(guessing is your main lg) I learn my English when I was 7 years old, when my parents put TV cable and I discovered Cartoon Network, Kids WB and Fox :), my first lg is Spanish and I learned a lot of English that way, not only that in movies and tv you can relate the actions they do with what they are saying. Here on the web I learned how to write some words the right way and a lot of the syntax by posting in Forums and asking questions. There are some software, like the one mentioned above and Tell Me More (witch I used to learn Italian), but there are some free that you can get by searching in Google.

You can also read books, magazines, and search for words you don't understand. Also markd12 made a really good comment about speaking with people that know the lg. I think you should take his recommendation :P

Well there are a lot of choices at your hand, a lot of them are free and you have the best resource ever.....The WEB!!

Even if he doesn't he is right. I went on holiday to Germany for 3 years in a row for just 2 weeks. First two days I couldn't understand anything. I made some friends (just friends) and after a week I could speak German fluently even without having it on school yet.

I am Dutch and right now if I talk English it will sound horrible (even though I made it my second primary language). But if you put me in either Great Brittan, Australia or the U.S.A (or any country using the English language) for a week or two and I'll just have a little accent left.
