Benefits between using a Canon or a Nikon

What benefits do you notice when you use a Canon compared to a Nikon, or a Nikon compared to a Canon and why? Do you prefer Canon Digital SLR or Nikon Digital SLR? Do you prefer Canon point-n-shoot or Nikon point-n-shoot? Or do you prefer a totally different brand of Digital SLR (DSLR) or point-n-shoot?

For DSLR I would say Canon. They make higher quality lenses and cameras and in my experience are more reliable. Also their DSLRs are great for video as well as photos. If you just want a basic compact point and shoot, I would go with Sony but thats for compact only, not DSLR's.
