You might want to see this,

You apparently are not allowed to fly unless you have an adult come with.

I know of several 15 to 17 year olds that have traveled alone to different continents.

Have they come to the US? There might be something different with coming to the US.

(Apr 18 '11 at 17:50) TheTechDude TheTechDude's gravatar image

Yes they flew from Germany to several countries including the USA

Here is what it said:

Many airlines welcome unaccompanied minors on their flights. To ensure a safe, comfortable, and fun trip for unaccompanied minors, you should call the airline to discuss its policies and services. Here are some rules of thumb about unaccompanied minors:

  • Please be sure to check with your airline for specific policies and fees.
  • Minors who are old enough (approximately ages 5-17*) can usually fly on nonstop, direct, or connecting flights, but usually are not accepted on the last connecting flight of the day. The age depends on the airline's policies, so please check with the airline.
  • Many airlines provide (or require) supervision service for minors from the time of boarding until the time the minor is met at the final destination. This is called unaccompanied minor service. Minors must be approved by the airline for this service.
  • Younger children (typically under the age of 5) are often not eligible for unaccompanied minor service and must be accompanied on the same flight and in the same compartment by an older passenger (typically 15 years or older).
  • Unaccompanied minor service is often mandatory for children ages 5-14*, but optional for teenagers (ages 15-17). Age requirements depend on which airline they fly.
  • A fee is usually charged at check-in for unaccompanied minor service. Expect to pay $30 or more each way.
  • With unaccompanied minor service, the airline will usually want to know who is meeting the minor at the destination. Proof of identification for the receiving adult is often required. Forgetting this required identification can cause unpleasant delays so make sure you know the airline's expectations.
  • Reservations usually need to be confirmed for all segments of the minor's flight. Standby reservations are not allowed on any leg of the trip.
  • Again, please call the airline prior to purchasing tickets and inquire about unaccompanied minors.

Ah as I suspected. It depends on the Airline. Like Ryanair classes anybody under 14 as a child.

I always do a google search for cheap flights, compare the prices on the sites that come up, then go directly to the airlines website and compare their prices. After that I call my local travel agent and she has so far always been able to beat all the other prices I could find online.

Note that often when traveling to another country you can get discounts when you also book a hotel or rent a car in the same transaction. If you got a place to stay and someone to pick you up then you can book a room for 1 night and you don't even have to check into the hotel. I once did this when I flew from Germany to LA and saved 300 euros on the flight. We booked the cheapest hotel room we could find which was someplace close to Niagara Falls for (if I remember correct) 10 euros.

Just ask several travel agents in your area what they can find for you and go with the best they come up with (unless you find something cheaper online).

Buy a dog crate and have yourself shipped in cargo. That's really cheap. Brush up on your barking for effect, though.

hey i live in chicago. go someplace else this city is horrible. everything is under construction. and theres nothing to do. go to NY or cali. you'll have a better time. lol everything is over priced and we have one of the highest tax rates around. if you smoke ciggs be pre-parded to pay 10 USD for a pack downtown. 8 USD by ohare airport. but you can go to Dupage county (Bensenville) which is right behind Ohare and you can get a pack of Cigs for 5 USD i live right next to Ohare so its a 5 minute drive. literally lol

Hi, London to Chicago return for £700 is good. If you want to get it a bit cheaper, you can check the airlines website at different times of the day. It is more expensive when you book between 9am to 5pm, than if you book it at 3am local time.

Also check non direct flights, say via Amsterdam.

Hope this helps,

Enjoy your vacation,

Dave.
