Is it Possible to use Linux through the Web Browser?

I am Curious, Can you use a linux version...online? It doesn't need a GUI. The reason I am doing this is I want to mess around with linux code, other than on my Android Phone. I am fully aware of Live CD/USB and Virtual Machines, however I like the idea of running linux in the cloud from a web browser.
