Don't Take Candy From Strangers?

Why is it as a child I was always told not to take candy from strangers. Why not? Sorry, probably a dumb question! But I don't know!

Just as some other people said, it's a lure. Think of it as fishing. Children are the fish, the candy is the bait, and the adult in question is the fisherman. The only time you take candy from any kind of stranger is when you're buying it. :P
